Undo, redo and start over

Every change by hand is recorded, and the whole layout can be handed back to the app at any time.

Undo and Redo

Undo steps back through what you did, one change at a time: a move, a turn, a mold lifted to the staging area, a Need you typed, a Solve anew, a Reset layout. Redo puts a step back after an undo. The status line confirms each with Undo complete. or Redo complete.; both buttons are greyed when there is nothing to step to, and during a drag:

A change of Need can take two steps to undo. When you raise a Need and the app finds room without moving anything, or finds none and stages the copy, one Undo restores the old Need and the old layout. When the app rearranged everything to fit the new copy, the first Undo keeps the new Need and returns to the arrangement it had before rearranging, with your manual changes; the second restores the old Need.

The history belongs to one layout and starts afresh when the layout is recomputed from changed inputs: after switching machine, changing a mold's size, Reload, a refresh from the master data, or choosing another clearance scheme, there is nothing to undo until you edit again.

Reset layout

Reset layout restores the most recent automatic layout for the current request, discarding every manual move since. It is greyed when the layout is already the app's own answer. The status line reads Layout reset to the solver result.:

It also clears every position kept with an allowance, and their warnings with it. Undo brings the manual draft back after a reset.

Solve anew

Solve anew runs the automatic placement again from the current inputs, as if the layout were new. It differs from Reset layout in that it does not go back to an earlier answer but computes a fresh one; the two can differ after Need changed. Undo brings the previous draft back after it too, as its status line says: New solver layout ready. Undo restores the previous draft.

What none of this touches

Undo, redo, reset and solve anew change the arrangement and the request in this layout. They do not touch the workbook, the molds' sizes on the Mold Data tab, the arms, or the settings, and they do not touch the other layout tabs.
